What’s New at NASA?

Whether you’re interested in the Orion module or the Mariner program, you’ve probably wondered how NASA plans to get to Mars. In this article, NASA administrators discuss these programs and other NASA programs. Read on to find out more. In addition to manned missions, NASA is also involved in commercial crew programs. Listed below are a few highlights of NASA’s current projects. Weigh in with your comments and questions below! The next big space race is only years away, so get to reading!

Artemis

The Artemis program, a multi-mission campaign, aims to push human space exploration to Mars and the Moon, bringing new technology with it. It will be led by NASA and will involve international collaboration. It will help build expertise for returning to the Moon and laying the groundwork for deep-space exploration. If successful, Artemis could lead to the first human missions to Mars and the Moon. It is a step forward for human space exploration and will help the United States retain its place as a world leader in space.

The Artemis program is a collaborative venture between NASA and commercial spaceflight contractors. It works in partnership with the European Space Agency and several other countries. Other nations have been invited to join the program by signing the Artemis Accords. They have until October 2020 to sign the agreement. The program is expected to cost approximately $25 billion in total. Artemis astronauts will be dressed in an xEMU spacesuit and xPLS life support backpack. The Space Launch System, or SLS, will launch all crewed Artemis missions from Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39B. Other supporting hardware, such as a lunar lander, is planned for launch on other vehicles.

Space Launch System

The Space Launch System is a super heavy-lift, expendable rocket under development by NASA. The program has been in development since 2011 and is now a reality. Whether the vehicle will be able to carry humans or payloads into orbit remains to be seen. But it’s one that is sure to become an important part of NASA’s future. Here are some facts about this vehicle. But first, let’s define what it is.

The first configuration of the SLS will be 322 feet tall and produce 8.4 million pounds of thrust at liftoff, the equivalent of 13400 locomotive engines. The rocket will also be capable of carrying up to 154,000 pounds of payload. The next two configurations will be much larger than the first and will produce 9.2 million pounds of thrust at liftoff. The fourth configuration of the Space Launch System will carry 46 metric tons to the vicinity of the Moon.

Orion module

Orion is a partially reusable crewed spacecraft being developed by NASA for the Artemis program. The Orion system is comprised of two modules, the European Service Module manufactured by Airbus Defence and Space and the Crew Module space capsule designed by Lockheed Martin. In 2008, Orion received the green light for use in the Artemis program. Its first flight is planned for late 2012.

The Orion crew module has four seats, which are adjustable and fold away after launch. The astronauts are protected by pressure suits and can interact with the spacecraft through a display screen, hand controllers, and physical switches. The crew module separates from the service module, which holds all the support systems. Once in orbit, Orion will be able to move into the proper landing alignment with the help of 12 small engines.

Commercial Crew Program

The Commercial Crew Program is a collaborative effort to develop safe, reliable, and affordable crew transportation systems to low-Earth orbit. The program works with the American aerospace industry to reduce the cost of human access to space while developing commercial crew transportation systems. NASA’s Commercial Crew Program oversees a team of technical experts tasked with managing, integrating, and scheduling the program’s activities. Steve Gaddis oversees the certification process for SpaceX’s Crew Transportation System.

The Commercial Crew Program at NASA aims to transition the work that NASA does on low-Earth orbit and other low-cost space missions to commercial companies and other organizations. In the long term, the program will lead to commercial operations on Mars and lunar orbit. Boeing and SpaceX have already committed to the Starliner program. NASA’s Commercial Crew Program will also create new markets and stimulate economic growth. The Commercial Crew Program at NASA will eventually allow commercial companies to launch and operate spacecraft that will carry astronauts and cargo to those remote destinations.

Space Station

The International Space Station (ISS) was first launched in 1998 by NASA and has since become a permanent home to astronauts and research laboratories. As of April 2022, there are currently more than 200 astronauts on board. As of this writing, two dozen of them have completed multiple trips to the ISS. The International Space Station is a complex collection of interconnected modules, airlocks, and docking ports. In addition, as of April 2022, two hundred and forty-six spacewalks were completed.

A permanent manned space station was one of the goals of Ronald Reagan and has become a key part of the US and international space programs. The ISS consists of two segments, one operated by Russia and the other run by the United States. During its sixteen daily orbits, the ISS travels more than 400 kilometers above Earth’s surface. Many breakthroughs in medicine and vaccine development have been made possible thanks to research conducted onboard. It also serves as a monitoring station for Earth’s ecosystems and natural disasters. It also helps develop technologies and spacecraft for the future, and studies the health effects of long-term spaceflight.
